>>13425628>>13425693Even if Freedom wasn't where the explosion came from, the problem is with the Nuclear Reactor Off button.
When the smoke resides, we see that Impluse Gundam is fucking trashed and that it's still holding it's weapon. Impulse Gundam have VPS on at the time, and THAT's what happened to it.
If Freedom turned off it's reactor right at that instant, it should have been turned to scrap because it doesn't have VSP to protect it. If the idea is that it fell into the ocean and that's what blocked off most of the explosion, then you have to ask, if Shinn purposely shook him off the sword or not.
Now, don't get me wrong. I know they would never kill off Kira, but by all standards, he should have died.
Personally, I have more of a problem with Destiny Gundam vs GOUF Ignited. Besides it being a terrible introduction episode for Destiny Gundam, there's no good reason both of those Gundams can't capture a GOUF and bring it back intact, what's Athrun gonna do, jump out into the sea?
But with all that, after the GOUF is sent towards the briny deep, it just so happens that Terminal agents were watching the entire time and show up to rescue Athrun on that very spot, even though there's no good reason anyone should know or have made it there in time.
