>>134247607's problem is mainly the first quarter being fucking terrible. The show takes ages to get going, which is a massive problem for a 48 episode series. It doesn't
>>13424773Aight. Macross is a great franchise that rarely sinks bellow mediocre. Why is this?
Because on the whole, it delivers everything it needs to to be a solid /m/ franchise. Most notably, it's fairly consistent in quality.
The music in the series is consistently solid from a composition standpoint. The worst sound track in the series is Macross II's, which isn't even that bad.
The mechanical design is also consistently well done. The mechs are usually appealing in their design, and generally have solid transformations.
Similarly, the shows usually have fairly solid action sequences. This is probably one of the most important things about a mecha series- you need to have solid action in order to sell models and toys.
The writing is arguably its biggest variable, which is something that can be said of any franchise that's been around so long. However, I wouldn't say anything outside of Zero is *badly* written in the sense it's an incoherent mess of ideas- mediocre, sure. But you can say the exact same case with Gundam and /m/ won't stop sucking that franchise's dick.
Almost everything in Macross has its feet planted firmly in previous series. Even something as out there as Basara's character is actually logical from the setting's history.
Is Macross a perfect franchise? Fuck no. It's flawed as hell. But to say that the majority of it isn't good is downright retarded, but that's to be expected of neo-/m/.
