Putting aside the psychoframe-Newtype magic that blocked a Colony Laser, was the tech used in Unicorn more advanced than the ones found in Late-UC Gundams?

It had I-fields for defense and psychoframe for precision control, but was it a regression or an improvement when later suits like the F91 used a bio-computer and beam shields?
