But no, the Universal Century is nothing compared to something like AD2000, where nearly everyone lives on welfare, fucking apples are illegal, mutants, robots, and crazy assholes are commonplace, rights are suppressed out of necessity, and the only solution is the absolute and total rule of the Judges.
This is also noting how everything outside of the Mega-Cities is wasteland inhabited by mutants, many of whom actually live lives that are lower in quality but more free and ordered than those of cits. All food is synthetic, all jobs are performed by robots (they're okay dudes most of the time), and even with the existence of spaceborne populations on Mars and the Moon as well as space, mankind still drudges on on the bombed out Earth. Also, aliens of all sorts exist, but they're pretty much like everyone else.
This is a world where food such that being a fatass is something you have to put work towards and Bingo is a nigh-incurable epidemic, complete with zombies. Freakin' Bingo.
By comparison UC is pretty okay. You've got genocide, widespread federal neglect, frequent wars, rapid and deadly weapons development, suppression and oppression, poverty (that's in MC1 too), environmental destruction, and war, but it's nowhere near the blighted Earth of AD2000. I believe UC, or at least the One Year War does win out in proportional death toll however.
