Magical Mystery Cure was originally intended to be the series finale for Friendship is Magic. Would it have been an ideal way to end the series? Hell no.
MMC was the 65th episode of the show, which was is the minimum requirement for the broadcast syndication that Hasbro was going for. M.A. Larson revealed several interesting details about the episode in a panel he attended a convention recently. You can check out the short video here:
https://youtu.be/bk8BmQW1X1gOn to my reason for liking MMC so much. I think that Twilight Sparkle truly deserved to become a princess after all she had been through with her friends. She had helped protect Equestria numerous times by the time we came to the season 3 finale and was she had been shown to be very talented for a unicorn her age. Not just anybody can become Princess Celestia's student after all. The episode itself definitely had pacing issues due to such a big event being crammed into a single episode but I think that M.A. Larson did a good job pulling it off given the circumstances. Making it into a musical episode was the best way to move the plot along with such time constraints, in my opinion.
