YouTube Red and Pony Content

No.25271196 ViewReplyReportDelete
>YouTube Red is a program implemented on Youtube by Google to give YouTubers the option to pay off viewing the ads on the entire website. For just $9.99 a month users will no longer have to see a single ad displayed on the website in any matter (video ads and layover ads). It also gives payors the ability to save videos to watch them offline. This system, according to Google, still allows content producers to make a certain compensation out of it. But many people say that because it is a "Shared Payment System" and essentially is a model of trickling economics, the biggest channels on YouTube (PewDiePie, Markiplier, YogsCast) will make the most money out of it while the smaller channels 'make a fraction of that nearing around 0.0003% of the pot'. According to NerdCubed in a recent video he did on the subject, his channel will only make that fraction of 0.0003% despite it having over 2 million views. NerdCubed also states that 35-40% of YouTubers don't even watch ads by various means (Adblock, Net Neutrality, Incompatible Modes of Ad Viewership).

So what does /mlp/ think of this whole YouTube Red fiasco starting up? Some YouTube "Experts" say that in the long run it only makes the big channels richer and hurts the little channels and is just a flat out a bad idea.

Here is a related video from said 'expert'.

So with Pony content on Youtube already on a decline in many areas, could YouTube Red be another nail in the coffin for pony content? Or are people just going to completely disregard YouTube Red with things like Adblock around which essentially does what Red does but for free.

Does /mlp/ even believe content creators in the fandom should be making money off things like YouTube videos which, at many times, feature show-related content not originally created by them but rather inspired?

Discuss.
