I experience the same feeling most of the time.
I still have yet to find a style I even enjoy drawing.A few things I do is collect massive amounts of art I enjoy.
>pic related Then separating out the images that really make me feel "soft" or relaxed in my chest when I look at them.
Not sure how to describe the feeling. But it started back in 2011 when I first began drawing and saving every CrookedTrees or SirRailgun picture I could get my hands on. Whenever I can't draw anything even remotely satisfying, I often filter though all those pictures and pull out ones that suit my moment and copy their style or mood. Sometimes you need to just step back and observe what others do. Thus seeing what makes your imagination tick.
Taking a break, which I do more often than I like. I will just stop drawing for days/weeks on end. It's kind of like re-starting your skill-set. When I get back into it, I often feel like I have improved since I left.
Change up your music. When drawing I find music both effects how and what I draw. It's why I don't go on Skype or stream too much when I draw.
Múm seems to be my fall-back music even to this day. 'Finally We Are No One' is my favourite album.Just sketch. Don't do any line art, stick with basic colours, nothing over-the-top. Get ideas on the page and nothing else. It's actually what I was doing here with the expressions a few days back.
And most importantly, don't let drawing feel like a job. If it is a hobby or a passion, keep it that way. That's partially why I don't like doing commissions. I like to use drawing as a brain exercise to work on my creative side. I find it assists in my design work and balances out working with calculations, code, and formulas all day.
