It would make so much sense...... Celestia must be getting old or something and basically has Luna, Cadence, and Twilight take her place as the main princess of Equestria. Then start Gen 6 where Twilight is now reading letters being sent to her.

Twilight already "died" in MMC only to be reborn as an Alicorn. But as far as permanent character death, I could definitely see Celestia taking it for the team off camera.

If they do something like killing a character, which i highly doubt, it would be extremely subtle. Something like an undefeatable evil character about to win, Celestia saves the world doing something really strange and then at the end of the battle she says: "I have to go now, Twilight. You have proven that you can rule this world even better than me. You are in charge now, take care of everypony". Then, Celestia walks away into a portal or something. Discord and Luna are shown in the background shedding a tear as the only ones who did understand what really happened.
