If they're geology experts, why would they build their farm on an active fault line?

The rock farm is said to be not far from Ponyville, which in turn is close to Canterlot, a city precariously build hanging off a mountain. Do they really expect me to believe that there haven't been any damaging earthquakes on that fault in the last 1000 years?
