That's why Sunset had to win her over with Actual Friendship. If she'd just beaten Midnight Sparkle's ass with rainbows, Twilight would have been back in two weeks with a bigger badder science machine. There is a fanric on here that cements this further. Sunset Shimmer is exhausted and hurt after fighting a space invader.

What does Twilight do? Build masks out of a piece of the alien technology that give the characters full blown superpowers and supposedly gives them Power Rangers like forms if they pony up while wearing them.

I think we might seriously be overestimating SciTwi here. Absorbing the latent magic of the Humane Five is one thing but trying to directly absorb the magic of Celestia, Luna and Discord? Even Tirek had to wait till he was strong enough and he actually knew of their abilities.

Compare that to a meek teenage girl? Plus lets say it can absorb active magical energy attacks I doubt it would do much against a large boulder being telekinetically thrown at her.
