The party continued its exploration of the icy mushroom-city of Circadia, finding only demons and terrified frozen corpses where there once would have been living mortals. The temperature had been steadily dropping as they explored the city. They were accompanied by seven Ecclesian soldiers, but Box, Ichimonji, and Spitshine were nowhere to be seen.

The clock ticks onward to the inevitable rising of the blood moon and the deaths of the JOY addicts.

With the humanoid, demonic Raven Rider defeated, Observer goes back to the entrance hall of the mushroom-and-brass tower of the Hypnagogium, where he sees Ecclesian B, who went with Dania, holding his gun to the back of a terrified griffon-pink butterfly hybrid demon.

Observer becomes increasingly aware of a muted sound coming from a room to his right. A slow, heavy, wet slapping sound comes from beyond the door, followed intermittently by dripping. The slaps come in irregular intervals, some louder and more violent than others.

As you enter the library and see the three ponies writhing in pain on the floor, a loud female yawn echoes from above, and the room grows remarkably colder in an instant. The voices of the three JOY addicts decrease in pitch and their appearances grow blurry and indistinct.

The gigginox, with some difficulty, forced its way downstairs and is now in the ruined library with you after barging its way down the stairs and through the doorway, much weaker than the outside plating on the tower.

The fire gradually warms the room, but its warmth is noticably weaker than what it should be. The JOY addicts slowly open their eyes. You see that all of them have empty eye sockets, devoid of blood or gore. Apparently not noticing, they crawl towards the fire, their appearances un-blurring as they approach it.

The griffon barely reacts as the sword and bullet pierce her, her body crumbling like an ice sculpture, with no blood. "Terrr-iffic..." she drones, melting.

With the griffon temporarily gone, the flame inside the lantern grow, hundreds of ayakashi sprites flying out.

Your and Trapper's grasps both fall short, but Vice just manages to snatch the end of Phase's hoof. Phase cries, and bones pop sickeningly as Vice feels her shoulder dislocate. Vicious tugs come from the other end.

The icy torso of the griffoness re-emerges with an annoyed sigh. "Oh, Vizsla, give me some patience for these fools..."

The light rips through the Beggar, roasting its skin and leaving a huge empty chunk in its body. Its trembling form continues to swish at the air for a few moments, before Ecclesian A walks up and shoots it, stilling the creature.

With the coast now clear, you see some a note and some coins at the base of the altar on which the white crystal lies. Beyond the grove behind the altar can be seen some dark irregular shadows. You're not sure what shape they are, but you hear water beyond them.

The wet slapping and slow dripping sounds creep louder and louder as you exit the room and emerge onto the platform connecting to the staircase. As you look down to the ground floor, you see a bony, elderly crystal pony mare with a stoop and knobbly knees. She wears a modest housekeeper dress and carries a wooden pail and a mop. She dips the mop into the bucket then hefts it onto the floor, making a wet slapping sound followed by dripping. She hums absently to herself, not noticing you as she cleans the floor.

Ecclesian B and the butterfly-griffon demon are nowhere to be seen.

Ecclesian G salutes, throwing more books onto the fire for the remaining addicts.

You and Gigginox venture upstairs, finding the remains of a ruined observatory. Most equipment is shattered, the room in disarray with desks and shelves tipped over and ransacked. The useless remains of a metallic equine angel lay on the pile, clutching its chest. A hole in the wall to the outside reveals gigginox's entryway.

Splitz leads Pryce and Flaming past the Druid Wellspring (a white glowing crystal set on an altar) and past a grove of bountiful trees untouched by frost. Past the grove is a grassy outcropping overlooking the shore of the Northern Ocean, with six small ships and one big ship docked there by the mouth of the river. The three griffons arrive from behind, carrying between them two emaciated shivering ponies - JOY addicts.

Amy sees a handsome earth pony stallion in black chitinous armor and a red cape emerge from the grove behind her. Following him are Flaming, Pryce, three griffons wearing spiky trashy metal and leather armor, and Ecclesians E and F.

Splitz hums a bit. "Hey there! Say, uh, whatcha doin' by my ships?" he asks Amy curtly.

As the mare opens the door to the dining hall, you see a long, blank hall devoid of decoration and color. Overlaying it, transparent, is a vision of a bountiful golden hall, at which many copies of Ecclesian B and the buttergriffon eat, with a crystal pony king at the head of the table. A mass of limbs chokes the king but he continues to eat and drink while they drag him down bloody under the table.

Within an instant, both images disappear, and you see a dreary hall with portraits on the sides and a fireplace, and a long empty table. The room has been freshly cleaned. "Sit anywhere you'd like sweetie!" the crystal mare says as she heads into the next room.

Renee begins to reach for something in her bag with Flow now gone.

Flow runs out of the graveyard and back through the residential district. He blazes past Ayakashi Salon, just barely seeing Flaming and Pryce follow a pony in black chitinous armor north through town. However what really catches his attention is that the atmosphere is getting colder and colder the closer he gets to the Hypnagogium.

Through the telescope you spy: Flow running towards the Hypnagogium, Pryce and Flaming following an earth pony in chitinous armor north towards the ocean, and some snow. More broadly, the inside of the Sashayan Wall is worse for wear, with tiny openings in its seemingly impenetrable sides here and there, probably where ponies broke in. With a flourish, Renee pulls a medium-length katana from her bag. Keeping it in the scabbard, she quickly digs it into the ground, kicking up a mess of mud and ice into Nightseed's face, causing the snowgriffon to sputter and stagger.

Renee points at the three ponies encased in ice behind Nightseed. "Now, now! Break them out and run for it!"

Flow reaches the front doors of the Hypnagogium, which hang open. He enters a three-towered castle made of mushroom and brass, its outside covered in a layer of ice. He can see his breath as he enters the halls, chilled to the core. There is a set of stairs spiraling up at the far end of the hall, and two doors on either side of him on the first floor. He hears a low buzzing sound coming from the left, and a distant feminine burp and groan come from far upstairs.

Splitz stands there for a moment, processing the words. "Oh. Ahahaha. My mistake." he shrugs. "Okay, everypony, hop onboard and we'll-"

One of the griffons clears his throat in annoyance, as if this is something that happens a lot. "Oh. Well, I shouldn't trust you TOO easily you know. We'll have to have some kind of middle ground."

With that said, Pryce retrieves a sample of the JOY cure. "I take it that's the magic right there, eh?" Splitz asks. "How nice. Magic is convenient, isn't it?"

The fog eclipses the city, making sight beyond the walls impossible. However, you see a silhouette in the fog on the wall- a tall figure, with wings. It clings to the outer walls like a dragon, its long neck peering over the wall. It has a spherical head and tentacle-like appendages sticking out of its neck.

Your focus is caught again by the feminine voice from above. Only this time, it groans and burps, followed by a gurgling stomach sound.

You lose track of how much time actually passes as you sit there. Your vision blurs and your body feels frozen to the chair as visions of various dinner scenes float by your eyes; the guests alternate from family members to the party to crystal ponies you've never seen before, to a stern hierarchy of proud sheep kings who all look disappointed at you.

It is not until the mare comes back with a long brick of chocolate that your head and vision clear. She sets it before you. "There's a river of caramel in this bad boy, your favorite, right? Go on, pig out, not like anyone's watching."

Shei-Sher curiously peers at the residents of the this strange city, enraptured by the amazing varieties of demons and further perplexed by the silly yet volatile ways they socialize amongst another. He darts the sight of the telescope about the city, laughing to himself and then finding himself in wordless awe. His sights linger onto a dark object far away. Huge and monsterous it seems, its figure obscured by the thick fog. He stares at the shadowy thing trying to imagine what it could possibly be. Captured in his curiosity, against his cautious nature, he decides he needs to visit it, whatever it is.

Shei's telescoping is interrupted by the belching heard above. The sound brings him back to reality, with a more disturbed mood. "Tha-a-a-at's enough fun." He leaves the telescope and proceeds through the room into the next corridor leading upwards.

Flow, as he rushes upstairs, meets Shei, once he heads up the stairwell leading from the observatory to the next room. They emerge in what would be a sunroom if there were a sun in these parts. It is a glass-walled lounge with a small amount of additional observatory equipment in the corner. Their attention is drawn to an enormous figure lounging in a swimming pool in the center.

Extending from an egg-like shell sits a colossal, slug-like beast with many clawed, segmented tentacles ending in varied appendages bursting from its slimy body. Many necks extend to meet a singular head, shaped like that of a hatchling griffon. Its body is a conflux of gnashing yellows and browns and pinks, within which one can see a clew of bones and limbs joined together like a knot.

It burps and yawns.
