So in 4 weeks time I've started MLP and caught up with the most recent episode today.
Why is this show so addictive? I mean I was already in deep places (being an anime fag since 2004), but I have grown pretty much sick of it now.
Loving something as much as FiM didn't happen to me in a decade or so.

Because it's not riding on any one thing in order to be good. It has a little of everything. Whatever you're here for, you can find some of it in MLP. The unpredictable nature of the show also keeps it from getting old, since you can never be sure exactly what will happen in the next episode.

I think the existence of the fandom has really helped in that regard. The writers and animators know that the slightest inconsistency will be paid attention to and they know the fans will get excited about any call back to previous seasons, so the show is surprisingly consistent and nearly every detail will come up again eventually.

The funny thing is that I started with japanese dub (which was just as awesome), but it didn't take much time to get to like the original voices.
Thankfully, they are doing a great job, unlike english anime dub.

And Twilight Sparkle's got one of the best ever actresses too, playing a royal voice that fits her amazingly, though there are times when it gives a strangely different feel to the original.
Also gotta like how Pinkie does the same high pitched voice, but crystal clear in japanese, though on the other hand, her occasional crazy sounds don't come across in japanese as well as in english.

Why is it so addictive? Simply put, because it's incredibly good.

The show is extremely cute, it's pretty funny, the characters are lovable and relatable. The writing on the characters is great and they have lots of depth and likable traits, the stories are fun, and the show is extremely sweet. It's about friendship, which is something everybody loves and appreciates. And Lauren Faust deserves so much thanks for making the show the way it is.

And as M.A. Larson said, "This is just my theory—and I'm sure they'll tell me if I'm wrong—but there's so much kids' animation now that's so cynical and postmodern. I can't watch most of it because it makes me insane, but this show is just so sweet and nice. I think for a lot of people that's just refreshing."

And as an added bonus, the ponies are sexy.
