the band is japanese and the album is around late 70s/early 80s and it was a live recording.

seems really vague i know but it was supposed to be a shoe gaze staple

Sort of proto-shoegaze, but they're really not that good. It's mostly fucking around with noise and effects, they're famous because their members were involved in revolutionist shit.

Not really, but maybe because I haven't seen an influx in/ a lot of bands that do stuff quite on the same level as APTBS. Additionally there was barely any at the start of the scene which makes the few coming up refreshing

Radiohead would basically treat it like EDM, where they make a facile entry-level example of the genre and critics would be too polite to call them out on it while plebs would hail it as brave and innovative.

Thom's voice would probably work well on a shoegaze record though.

It doesn't have to be guitars but yeah, the textural focus is kind of the key element. That's really no different from almost any other rock subgenre though, they're all just "ok let's do rock again except now with X."
