Why does music have to be meaningful?

This is mainly centered on hip-hop. I myself can almost only like an album or a song if it has meaningful lyrics. I am a big fan of people like A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Joey Badass, Public Enemy that type of stuff. Outside of hip-hop things i absolutely love Animal Collective, Tame Impala, James Blake that kind of thing. But anyway my question is: Why does music have to have a message for it to be good? Its not so much if a conscious message or a bitches, money, party message is better than the other. Its just the fundamental thing, like why does music have to have any kind of message at all? If youre in love with somebody you pretty much know how you feel, you shouldnt need anybody else to tell you how it is to be in love. If you grew up in the ghetto and hear Illmatic by Nas why does it make you like it the more it is like your own story? That should mean that you would think it was boring because you already know how it is. But it isnt that way and it puzzles me. The easy answer to this question could be that we like to have something we can relate to, but i think its more than that, but what it is i do not know. And thats why i ask you, because this sub always seem to have well thought out opinions on all aspects of music.

tl;dr: Why does music need to have any meaning or things you can relate to at all?
