Every album they made was better than the previous, and they never really made a bad album, (yes, even The Party's Over and It's My Life - they're great compared to a lot of that period's synthpop) nor did they have a low point which followed a high point. They disbanded at the most opportune time, which was the peak of their high point.
Another band I was thinking of were the Kinks, if you ignore everything beyond past Lola vs. Powerman or maybe even Muswell Hillbillies. They went from being a standard British Invasion band to creating one of the best albums of the year for 1967, '68, '69, and '70 each
