Exactly what's so bad about this? Some of the lyrics may get a bit silly, but the playing is so aggressive and furious that I can't help but enjoy it.

I like it, I listen to Frantic to get myself pumped before exams or whatever

that and Gott mit uns by Sabaton (Swedish version) for obvious reasons

mostly, I think it's because it differs radically from their earlier albums and so pissed off average fans
and the fact that it's Metallica means that other people dismiss it
it really isn't so bad, not a super great album that's important to music or anything, but it's got some good shit

Pretty much this. I think St. Anger had a lot of potential to be good.

Has anyone here heard the ST ANGER 2015 recording? Non-shit drumming and the songs are way shorter.

The Unnamed Feeling is a good example of why I dislike this album as much as I do, without mentioning the snare drum and the production: it's a concept with good potential (could take a lovecraftian turn and that's it, instant 10/10 lyrics), and some good riifs, that gets ABSOLUTELY ruined by decisions impossible to justify:
