>>60033294I honestly don’t understand why this is constantly considered XTC’s best when albums like English Settlement are a million times better than bottom of the barrel material such as this mess.
Skylarking is by far one the worst records released by an artist I claim to love. And I’ve had my fair share of Raditude's and The 2nd Law's, but this just takes the cake.
From here on out, this LP is just one big, burning pile of uninteresting melodies, embarrassing lyrics, and lifeless instrumentation that just screams the ’80s. With tracks like ”That’s Really Super, Supergirl” and “The Man Who Sailed Around His Soul” easily ranking as some of the worst songs XTC ever put to record, it’s really no wonder how Skylarking soils the band’s very name by a casual utterance.
I feel like this album tries so hard to be catchy and groovy when in reality it just comes across as a dull and cheap imitation at some of this group’s biggest influences. This was truly one of the most unpleasant experiences I’ve had listening to an LP, and I never thought I would say that when talking about an XTC record.
XTC tried to make a concept album and failed oh so miserably at it.
