Every Open Eye is basically the same shit all over again, but even more commercialized and radio-friendly.
i think they wanted a successful album in their comfort zone that wouldn't take a lot of (if any) risks. they succeeded, but that kind of music is almost always pretty fucking worthless.
in the artistic sense, though, b/c you can still get a lot of money out of safe and comfortable
