Formal training, besides practicing dexterity and your personal voice, which also happens without formal training. means learning old structures and patterns for making music compositions.

Since people outside of overtly classical, some progressive metal and electronic music backgrounds don't generally care about how many chord variations, unique tunings, voices, etc. you can pull, it isn't necessary to be classically trained.

Also, there's an argument that it's possible to be more honest with your art when your expression it isn't filtered through 500 year old mannerisms, styles and modes. The untrained instead may have full reign to produce something uniquely them, having not been told how to act or say how they feel. Going to art school is more like going to school for art manners, grammar and history, which is great, but not for everyone, just as the outsider approach isn't for everyone.

No way. There are some that don't find her attractive. Also her sound is unique, so "basic pitch4k-indie" wouldn't do her justice. Simply said, I never heard any other artist that do the same music as her.

I think in 'rock' guitar there is a distinction between "correct" and "proper". This is to say an artist may not be the most talented and write and record a piece. Playing it his way would be 'correct' however a more skilled musician might be able to play the exact same thing 'properly'.

It would be foolish to say knowledge of music and technique hampers creativity. I mean, that is just a purposefully ignorant stance to take.

She's fucking great and together with Tosin probably the most interesting guitarist of this generation (does anybody have some recs for good/interesting current wave guitarists that aren't Djentman 234234/Shitty Tosin rip off 5373? Jason Richardson and those guys from Polyphia are doing a lot of great technical stuff but for now they're mainly just progressing what already exists instead of truly innovating, and their compositions generally aren't interesting and feel stiff/mechanized. Rick Graham is like 45 and doesn't release a lot of music; he's mainly a teacher. Mario Camarena is cool but we haven't heard that much from him yet. Who else is there?). However, as far as female guitarists go, there is always Emily Remler (and Corrie van Binsbergen but literally nobody knows her).
