I always thought Piper was a bit overrated tbh, it's really simplified and dumbed-down compared to the crazy psychedelic music the Barrett era of the band was doing live.

Really? Like what? Find me an album that does what Person Pitch dos but better. Find me an album that takes the best of AnCo (early era experimentalism, mid era arrangement/layers, late era melodies) and puts it on top of repetitive minimalist style tribal grooves.

It's pretty simple. Avey had been in a few bands by that point, Panda had developed his production chops on his self-tited and way ready to help put together something with more substance. They both had interesting taste in music and there's an implication in all of AnCo's work that there was some sort of fucked-up stuff in their households. It would have been weird if STGSTV *wasn't* inspired.
