***It's the 2nd of October
The point of these threads, is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to, and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.
We track our progress using calendars, which we fill with the albums we listen to on each day and a rating of some sort for all of them. There are templates in the following posts. We encourage you to write the albums' titles and the artists' names somewhere on your calendar. We don't have any tools for creating these calendars, we use simple image editing softwares. You can predetermine a schedule for a month or you can report back on whatever album you randomly picked every day. Many of us make our schedules interesting in various way, popular ones being genre restrictions, new releases, and recs from the /daily/ community.
We had a
plug.dj room, which we used to shitpost for a little while. It's now forever empty, so if you want to spend a little time there, it is too late. You can find the temporary substiute here though:
>https://synctube.org/r/Some_dumb_synctube_channel Anyone can start the threads, but usually one of /daily/'s dedicated trips starts them.
We encourage you to start it, just be sure to use the standard OP.
>Templates:TOPSTERS Most importantly, get taste! (or don't if you don't feel like it, who am I to tell you what to do?

I actually listened to this like a week ago, but I want to continue this chartless Elliott Smith chart. Elliott Smith - From a Basement on the Hill (2004)>singer/songwriter, indie rock So the progression of his sound went from indie folk->indie pop->indie rock. While the indie folk stuff obviously reigns supreme (love you s/t), the indie rock stuff is much better than his indie pop stuff. From a Basement on the Hill is probably his rawest album, but in a different "raw" than Roman Candle or s/t. While those albums are raw in their lo-fi production and haunting atmosphere, this album is raw in that it actually gets shockingly noisy and out of control at times, nearly bordering on noise rock at points. And these points are quite nice. This album does have shortcomings, of course. Being a posthumous album that was completed about a year after Elliott's death, it does feel really odd and disjointed at parts, especially with the over-production and over-instrumentation—specifically in the otherwise fantastic "King's Crossing", and the superfluous bird chirping noises and windy sounds in the gorgeous "Twilight". But of course, Elliott Smith was known for his lyrics and soft-spoken vocal delivery, and this album delivers on both of them—kind of. A lot of lyrics on this album do keep with the traditional depressing themes that Smith is known for, but their effect is quite amplified due to the fact that they basically serve as his suicide note. But some lyrics just seem kind of embarassing and like they're out of a high schoolers journal, but it kind of works. And the vocals. I've always loved Elliott's voice, and my opinions on that isn't different here, but a lot of the time his vocals are buried by all this fucking instrumentation crammed into these tracks, and its just a shame. So basically, shockingly good for a posthumous album, but it still suffers from a lot of the things posthumous albums suffer from. 3.0 s/t>rc>faboth>e/o>xo>figure 8

>Kronos Quartet (Terry Riley) - Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector Very dank. I really love strings and these are very pretty ones at that too. I was a big fan of "G Song" and the Lacrymosa. They were very emotive throughout their entire length (especially G Song) and the violins were gorgeous. Cadenza series were also cool. The only track that felt a little bit out of place was the Cry For A Lady track, mostly because of the vocals. I do realise that this right here is a compilation and I can't really say that it was bad. I liked the piece but it meshed up the flow a bit. Would love to have it right at the end. The title piece is obviously the key presence here, going on for 12 minutes. I loved the elements of swirling minimalism and the alarming tempo of the piece. Very colorful. Overall I thought this was really good and it enters my top 3 for this year's releases. Thanks givingbear for recing this thingy. 9/10 I might check out more Jandek tonight as soon as I finish this phone call to my father, explaining him how to use Logic Pro. It's been an hour already and I don't think he's getting it at all.

>Jandek - The Gone Wait Happy belated 70th birthday Mr. Smith! Nothing says celebration like manikins with wedding dresses on sale. No, no, no, no. There’s 5 tracks on here, two of them are over 10 minutes. The first track is titled “I Went To Hell”. Apparently there is no time to play around in Jandekland. The opening guitar is tuned very very low. This is something new. It almost sounds like an unplugged bass guitar. Maybe it is a bass guitar? Who the heck knows with this guy. The playing style is fairly similar to the regular atonal strums. It just sounds more sinister than usual. The story enclosed in this song contains from 2 repeating verses and a small connecting section in between. “First I went to hell / Then I went to heaven / Can I catch you on your way to hell” is a hell of a start for the album mood. The track seems like a surreal message to someone the protagonist loves. My main concern is the small connecting passage. “I got a chair and a carpet for you / But I don’t know where you live” is a bit I cannot explain. I guess I should say a separate word about Jandek’s vocals. Just as low as the guitar and surprisingly very casual. “I See The Open Door” is more of this surreal world from Jandek. A very broken up representation of leaving past behind that seems to occur in a dream-like surrounding. What’s really cool is that the instrumental accompaniment seems to try and catch up with the story’s dynamics. I usually like this thing about Jandek the most but it sounds fairly different with all his strings tuned down.
Dogwander !!DkmPyst8z1V
>>60047503 “I Was King” is the first 10 minute long track that continues the thorough analysis of the eternal Jandekian protagonist’s past. This time, we get the image of a 12 year old who cares about absolutely nothing. There are no worries, no concerns, barely any feeling of time. Sterling closes off the story with a switch to a modern day character, mentioning these new, perfect and clean doors in the life of the protagonist. I guess that even when we have countless possible paths open for us during our lifetime, we still keep looking back at our “immortal” 12-year old self. This whole narration occurs to the sound of Jandek molesting the lower string to the point where it doesn’t sound tuned at all. Once again the dynamic switches from the past recollection and the modern day “doors” is pretty neat.
“I Just Might Go Now” has this menacing slow-tempo string hits, opening the second 10 minute long track. More extremely jumbled up lyrics with a slightly metaphysical twist. The protagonist seems to be begging his friend/love interest to give him their body. A lot of the narration seems to detach the idea of “body” from the actual person, leaving the listeners with a fairly strange image. The closing line shows this desperation just as well as Jandek’s slow and moody vocal delivery. “Please say yes”.
Dogwander !!DkmPyst8z1V
Quoted By:
>>60047517 The closer “I Found the Right Change” seems to be the most energetic track on here. There are even small traces of the younger Jandek appearing here and there in the vocal performance. The bass (still have no idea) guitar seems to have some very simple and specific passages working their way along to a story of a certain man in a certain room where no one ever stays for long. Everyone seems to be passing through. He does deliver a certain gift to someone (“I’m in this moment of giving / I found the right change to take / The indescribable beauty to you /And it’s not mine, it belongs to you”) before finishing the whole story with the words “Abandon everything you wanted”. This is a confusing story. I have an urge of trying to connect the opening story with the closing and bring in the whole heaven/hell thematics but it still needs some precision tuning. There seems to be a common theme of rooms, doors and spaces all over the album so that can be thrown into the pit of speculations. I’ll keep trying to solve it.
So far I have been really enjoying the second solo guitar rebirth of Jandek. His atonal playing varies from album to album and his lyrics are just spectacular. Loved this album, especially “I Was King” and the opening “I Went To Hell”.
