RIP RUTRACKER

Due to local piracy concerns, the NFMI (Russia's equivalent to the RIAA) has recently filed an umbrella lawsuit against rutracker.org to block all public access from the Russian mainland. The site owners are taking this seriously and have offered the members a vote between A) doing nothing and leaving the Russian userbase to circumvent the block, or B) conducting a mass deletion of copyrighted torrents in the hope of satisfying the NFMI plaintiffs.

Right now the vote stands at 70% in favor of preserving the torrent library, which is encouraging, but there's no knowing for sure exactly how the site will be affected. Russians are obviously a major demographic on the tracker and a nationwide block would significantly cut down on swarm sizes. Even in this "best case" scenario, it's likely there will be a sudden drop in rare content.
