Where I model will probably be dictated by what rolling stock I get given by my cousin, there's a mix of British steam era models from all over the place, GWR, LMS, LNER, and British Rail. Can't recall any Southern stuff. It should be mostly LNER and LMS stuff though, from memory. What I end up with is anybody's guess though.
I'll be buying a live steam model of pic related from the estate so maybe a sort of not-Leeds, which had an LMS and LNER shared station. The live steam also limits my options with the layout design, no main line gradients steeper than probably 2%, and I want to have my rolling stock close-coupled so I think I will opt for a generous 30" min radius.
