When I started riding bikes I though an MTB would be a decent bike for me.
I just liked the way it looked. I always loved fat tires.
After a couple months I kinda felt to urge to go faster and further. However a road bike never really was an option to me because I though they were for the road racers with skin tight suits. Until I got to test ride a road bike. I was kinda like love on first ride. Everything felt so smooth and fast.
Not many days later I bought my own road bike. Spent quite the money on it too. Sure the speed was great. But one thing I didn't know was how uncomfortable they can be. Even the slightest adjustments to your handle bar or saddle could make a world of difference. But no matter what I did, it was always uncomfortable. Every unevenness in the road I could feel. Primarily in my wrists and neck. And eventually I though about switching my dropbars for flatbars for more comfort. I felt like I was overreaching. Other frame sizes didn;t help either Turned out that wasn't really an option due to compatibility of derailleurs and shifters and stuff.
So I went shopping for a flatbar hybrid and came up with
>pic relatedHybrid bikes had a bad image imo. But this one had Ultegra 6800 and looked bretty good.
Conclussion: Road bikes are faster. That's a fact. But this bike doesn't do much worse. Dropped many road "racers" while riding and also made some decent miles without any form of discomfort. This bike is also a lot more versatile. Slightly lesser road conditions are also not much of a problem anymore. Compatible with fenders and panniers. I haven't regret my purchase yet.
