I was going by history and similarities in product. Benelli styling is very angular and controversial, like Lamborghini, and it's an expensive Italian brand founded to compete with a much older and more established high-end Italian brand. They also both have a signature mechanical element in the Benelli Inertia system and the Lamborghini V12. Benelli is nowhere near as expensive as the highest-tier Berettas or in the same percentile as Lambos, but nothing's perfect.

I built an AR for $300. Milled my own lower, got a parts kit for it, and bought a PSA premium blem upper.

The only reason I've been eyeballing .40s more is because a friend of mine said that they're better in terms of "stopping power." Considering it will be mostly for home defense that's sort of what steered me in that direction. He owns several .40s and swears by them.

I'm relatively green in terms of caliber and their effectiveness in terms of incapacitating. The increased ammo cost doesn't much matter to me, really, just looking for something effective and reliable.

The difference between 9mm and .40 is very very slim. You won't even see a difference at all really. I recommend going with 9mm being that the ammo is more abundant and cheaper. If you're going big caliber, you gotta go big or go home .45 and up. But that's not recommended, if you get a big caliber as your first gun you won't hit shit, theres no point in getting more "stopping power" (lel)if you wont hit shit

you should consider shooting each of the main calibers if i were you (that being 9, .40, and .45) at a range. See how easily you can control the recoil and make follow up shots.

The pic is a comparison of some different bullets. And there isnt really a difference between them. The main factor in dropping a home intruder is going to be shot placement, which is why you should practice quick follow up shots with each caliber.

You wont go wrong with any of the choices, you just substitute a guns maximum number of rounds in a magazine for a slightly larger round. So its up to you to decide, some people swear by each one of the above rounds for defence

I've shot 22, 9mm, 40, 45, and 50. I want to stay away from a 45 or 50 as my first gun, it's just too much.

I guess I'll just have to go back and shoot both a 9mm and a 40 one after the other and see which one feels best. I've only gone recreationally, never with the idea in my head that I would be buying one for myself, so it'll be a different mindset. Thanks for the input.
