That like saying the fashion trend for the autumn is actually the summer one because it was debuted at the summer fashion show.
Concepts start the trends. Wedge is an 80's trend showcased in the 70's.
That is why in automotive design the countach is considered an 80's cars.
Same as the esprit. The Esprit is actually a great example because it was later restyled to fit the 90's trend of smooth edges and flat engine covers with prolonged B/C pillars. Like the F355 and MR2 mk2.
The Esprit is an 80's and 90's car designed in the 70's.
Back to the Countach. It indeed was launched in the mid 70's. But the concept was way smoother than the 5000QV. The initial prototype had a smooth shape across the roofline and simple angular details to hint what would be the future designs.
The production version saw new intakes breaking that smooth roof line and in 78 the new wider tires and agressive wheel arches where added along the new optional V-shaped wing and that was a pure 80's trend design.
There is even a divide in the Countach fans between the pre-78 restyle and the post-78 restyle.
