But yeah I got back to base unloaded all the crates and got back on my bike for the 5 minute ride home which was way better than the van.

It's a Mercedes Sprinter Automatic so when you put your foot to the floor it makes a lot of noise but doesn't really move. I'm not used to that level of throttle response.

Hell I started two months ago (if that long) on a 1999 DR650. It's 350lbs, but has good tires (Kenda 270s) and it's really not *that* heavy. If you want to blast around trails, then listen to this guy. He knows what's up.

I heard 125 2-strokes can be really tricky with power. Like they have nothing unless you have it in the right RPM range, then there's a sudden burst of power. I hear that range is really narrow with the 125s so it takes a lot of work to keep it moving. Is this true, and would it make it harder for a n00b to ride?
On the other hand I hear the KDX has very linear power that would be great for every class of rider.

it depends on what kind of trails you are riding. the more open faster ones, its nothing. but the tricky slower ones, especially uphill, could be trouble if you dont into the clutch

KDX would probably be a good start. 2-strokes in general have a peaky powerband [the type you describe], the KDX is more of a woods bike while most of the smaller 125 and 250 2-strokes are build more for MX style riding. I think a 4-stroke 250 or 300 will be easier to live with overall.

Also if you see Wombatanon arund he has a KDX and can tell you more about it, I know he loves the thing but he's been riding for awhile and can tell you how beginner friendly it is.

Yeah I've already asked him about it. I've been watching Craigslist for KDXs for a while because that's what I've decided I want for a dedicated dirt bike.
I was mainly asking about the 125s because I don't have experience with them. I've only ridden 4-strokes.

I have actually only ridden 100cc 2-strokes, but most of the smaller displacement 2-strokes are very peaky. It gets a little better as you go up in displacement but it's not smooth power until you get into the 500s [which seem to make peak power everywhere in the rev range somehow], even then it isn't as predictable as a 4-stroke.

And, actually that's a lie, I had a CR125 for awhile but it never wanted to run so I only rode it a couple times then traded it.

Kek not quite. The problem with the 500 2-strokes is they'll throw you off the back right off of idle if you let them. That was the one thing I noticed riding my dad's KX500 is it didn't feel peaky it just felt like the power was always there.
