Battery, alternator, or something else?

No.13763986 ViewReplyReportDelete
We bought an 04 accord v6 last year. It had an aftermarket alarm, but the seller didnt have the remote.

Last weekend, I replace a headlight bulb. I had to remove the battery to get to it. I put everything back together and the car wont start. I get no turn on the starter. Instead, the accessories all flicker and the alarm led is blinking and I can hear a relay or module clicking. So I push the button, and put the key in and out and try a bunch of shit. Finally, I disconnect the alarm antenna that was taped to the windshield. Car starts. I shut it off, wait, it starts right up again. I shrug.

She uses it monday and tuesday no problem. Wednesday night it wont start. Alarm led is clicking and flashing. AAA sends a battery guy who cant get it going, so we have it towed home.

I, a man who's never messed with car electronics get brave. I remove the alarm box. I find the ignition (black/yellow), accessory/blower (white/black), 12v constant (white). I cut all the wires from where they were soldered in. I put the ignition wire back together and tape the other two. There were a bunch of other smaller wires but I just left those as is.

I turn and get like one crank. So I have my buddy jump me. After a few tries it comes to life. We drive around for a while. I turn it off and it starts up. I drive around some more, car starts. I'm thinking I'm good, the battery is charged. I turn it off, and it wont start. It barely cranks. Fuck.

"What the fuck is 'the Elephant'?" you ask confused

The look on his face makes you feel like you should know, at least he fights back the laugh.

"You'll love it."

He motions for you to follow him, you end up at the back of the hangar, wondering which one of these engines laying about is "The Elephant", the answer smacks you in the face when you see a single engine and transmission covered in a tarp.

"2 4 barrels, 400+ hp, even more torque, not much out there can touch one." he goes on hyping it up

Just pull the damn tarp already!

The tarp goes away to reveal a orange, black, and chrome beast. The chrome air cleaner tells it's a "426 HEMI"... could've just said that, you know what that is.

"Why the hell did he call it an elephant?"

"Weighs about the same and almost as big." he replies rather bluntly

It is a pretty damn big engine, but it has the transmission and from the looks of it all accessories, only problem is that $800 price (If that even is a problem, you could be getting a deal as far as you know.)

"So what ya think, you want it or...." he

If you do buy it you'll be left with $170 on you with $250 at home. That job Carpenter told you about sounds pretty appealing now.

A) Take it
B) Pick something out from the list >>13734134
C) "What else is there to choose from?"

...made a Mustang that's as good as the 03/04 SVT Cobra?

>pic related

Seriously though. Nearly every platform since then has been full of cost cutting measures that hurt overall performance in some way. They don't even try to push the envelope anymore.

This is why you don't let your friends drive your car, ever. I literally only had it for four days. Good friend on mine wanted to take it for a spin... I trusted him... And I guess a 5.0 was too much for him because he spin out on the freeway onramp and smashed my shit.

Luckily it's fixable. New headlights, New bumper cover, New hood, New passenger fender.

Let this be a lesson to you.
