99% of the time you can just split open the fob and put a new battery that costs you 2-3 dollars on amazon/ebay. Slap it together again with rubber cement or some other breakable adhesive and call it a day. Considering that your remote lock fob needs the same battery swaps, the cost difference is either nothing, or so trivial it may as well be nothing.
Side note: Fuck anyone who says that remote locks are bad. I can poke my pocket while carrying 80+ pounds of shit and unlock and open my trunk easily rather than fumbling around in the dark for the lock in the middle of the winter with heavy gloves on. I never want to buy a car that doesn't have a fob again. Passive entry? Eh don't really give a fuck, but no power locks with a remote? Do not want.
