>>13718883You have to actually think about buying an 86 though. Look at the market. A WRX and an FR-S cost the same and one is actually good.
An automaker needs to hurry the fuck up and release a car that DOESN'T require you to think and decide whether it's a good idea to buy. The 86 is amazing on paper, but the price makes it fucking retarded.
You're gonna see it in magazines and youtube reviews if the S-FR costs 19-21k - "It's a fun car, but it's hard to recommend when a V6 Mustang/Turbo4 Camaro is just a couple thousand more and better in every way"
Toyota has a chance to completely dominate a segment of the market.
For $19-21k, this car is a compromise. It's giving up power and utility. People have to justify that somehow, and they won't feel good about it even if they claim to.
For $15k, that isn't even a question. It's not a compromise, It's the only option. People will feel genuinely good buying it at that price because they're buying into something special and not something that is some kind of tough desicion.
With the correct ad campaign aimed at the correct demographics (86 was aimed at the wrong demographic, millennials, who didn't buy it because poor) you can not only sell quite a few of these, but you could rival the numbers that the Miata did on its original launch in the 90s. You could make this something that everyone can enjoy. Hell, make a turbo version with 200 horse for $21k. People would buy that. Make it the car for EVERYONE. Make a fun RWD sports coupe the rule and not the exception.
Toyota can do it. They can single-handedly own and change a segment of the market that is currently untapped. Make it cheap enough for even poor /o/faggots to afford. Give people a reason to sell their old Miatas and get into a new car.
Doing this, Toyota will also gain new buyers in the future, people who never would have bough Toyotas otherwise.
etc.
