I have some family in Tokyo who could possibly help, and I could take a vacation there if needed.

Don't do the importing yourself, trust me. Canada to US is very grey market and sketchy, not worth the risk. There's plenty of cool cars that are 25 years old that aren't the R32, but if that's what you're dead set on then get it.

the problem is that now that R32 are legal to import, the prices are going up for used ones in japan, and they're not all that unique anymore.

If you still want a skyline though, get an R30, less common, still legal.

The part where the 350Z costs $7-8,000 while your godcarR32 is $20,000 no matter what way you slice it. And there's the whole part where you're not mail-ordering stupid shit that'll inevitably break on your 25 year old Datsun that you never expected (because its 25 years old).

$20,000 gets you A LOT of faster machinery. Alternatively, $12,000 in sick mahdz.

Automotive performance leapfrogs every 5-10 years even when power/weight ratios stay the same. Cars just simply end up cornering faster. Chassis rigidity improves, suspension design is further refined, tires get wider and grippier. The sooner you come to terms to it the easier it will be. Even a R34 GTR (originally released in 1999) wasn't much faster than a 5 year newer Evo 8/WRX STI

And its not, lol. Its about as fast stock for stock while being three times more expensive in the USA. It really is a overrated car. A older 350Z is about as quick, and $20,000 also buys you your pick of a used 370Z, mint E46 M3, 5.0 Mustang Track Pack, or if you're lucky as all fucking hell a stockish Evo/STi.

All of which will outcorner a R32, spend less time on jackstands, and be cheaper to own in the long run.

i wont disagree that the r32 is overrated and overpriced though... r33 gtr is much better value
