Mercedes.

Talk to me, people. What is with Mercedes? I am a proud owner of a 1979 300SD, and want to move into the big time with an E350 4matic BlueTec. Is it worth it? Can I do my own maintenance? Are they full of surprise defects?

ITT: Mercedes and why it does or does not suck today.

Just make sure the engine/transmission is good, and you wont be disappointed. I do all my repairs myself. the only bad thing is the rust.

Yes, but it'll be a pain on the ass.

Turbo drips oil onto servo actuator that opens/closes intake flaps. 5 hours labor to replace servo.
Potential to get a porus block, where coolant will up and seep though the metal. Requires a full engine replacement.

Op, as the creator of the Tesla thread I abandoned my E350 in favor of Tesla. With the electronic components and recent issues I've had with my E350 made it an easy choice.

I had an E350 luxury 2014 and I had so many problems with the lights and control arms. Abandon Mercedes till they fix their shit

Find it weird how a e350 or any high value car could have so many problems. I hear/see a lot of talk on here and in general of bmw/mercedes being shit to maintain. So with that being said the honda civic hybrid I bought for 30k 9 years ago which hasn't given me any problems till now (IMA light is on) was and is a better option than a bmw/mercedes? Oh and my IMA issue will be fixed by my dealer for free. Also never did take in my car for maintenance, maintenance being oil,brakes, other fluids and it being all done by me. So what's the maintenance like on a Mercedes?

With the way tech is consuming the industry, it's making buying a luxury car an unnecessary high risk. I would either lease or buy a Tesla since it has an 8 year infinite mile warranty

I own a 1990 300E and even it has the most bizarre problems with little things that build up over time.

For the most part, everything about the cars are solid but the nitpicky problems render it often undrivable.

So it sounds like we are going from awesome mechanical durability and dependability to a choice between high-maintenance luxury or electric. Electric is stupid. I hate it. When the power grid goes out, your done. One can always find fuel.

And God know what kind of pollution and processing are needed to dispose of those batteries - low carbon footprint my ass.
