I just bought a 1996 Honda Prelude. It has a new (only 1k miles at the most on it) Exedy stage 3 clutch. When I test drove it, I did put it through its paces and stepped on it. The clutch does not slip or grind. However, when I really step on it, I get smoke and burnt clutch smell. If I drive like a normal person, there is no smell/smoke.
The previous owner completely babied the car. Could he have just not really broken in the clutch, even after putting 1k miles on it?
The plates weren't put in backwards, the anti-rust coating was cleaned off before installation, and the flywheel was sent to a shop to be resurfaced.
What could be going on? I have no idea where to start.
