Wouldn't the fix require more than that in case the gasket blows again? Maybe a heatshield on the exhaust manifold to prevent oil drips from igniting.

A '97 is almost 19 years old now, I don't think people will have to worry about the gasket degrading again for a while.

Except every single shit engine, including the SB350 leak out the top of the motor and onto the exhaust manifold. With the 350 it's the valve covers.

GM build quality is utter garbage.
But hey, they used to be a bargain before they busted the unions and shipped those jobs to Mexico... only to charge more money for even shittier vehicles.

What, you Euro and Asian douchebags think that your gaskets will last more than 20 years? Rubber and neoprene gaskets harden over time, it doesn't matter who makes the fucker. I've seen valve cover gaskets on Toyotas, Nissans, Mercedes, and the big three just snap in place from hardening over time.
