a suspension lift will typically give you a greater articulation range, which means you can't increase your tire size without rubbing when you hit the bump stops. so, by doing a combination body and suspension lift, you gain room to put on bigger tires.
at the end of the day, bigger tires are the only way to actually get more ground clearance (get your diffs off the ground), so a body lift is typically on the menu for advanced builds.
