It'll put holes in your clothes, though. But if you get some on your hands, washing with warm, soapy water is fine.
And I also recommend the process for cleaning the batt with baking soda and water. You can make like a paste and brush it on the battery, then rinse it off. They also sell battery cleaner at the auto parts store.
