Is the 2003 Corolla Conquest a good car for a guy moving up from a 1980s shitbox who wants a daily driver but also wants something with good power and acceleration? I found one at my local dealer for 3700 dollarydoos inc. RWC but no rego. Has a wonderfully well kept interior, exterior has no serious damage or marks, it has a 1.8L engine (16 valve, DOHC) and it's a 5 speed manual. Has around 170k on the clock.

So my friend wants to get into bike riding and is looking at Suzuki TU250X's, a very retro styled bike, I said i'd ask around if they were good bikes.

So anyone ever ridden one? Fun little bikes or any nuisances we should know about?

I've only encountered a couple bikes where the shear height was a problem. I think that was a certain year of R6. Usually it's the width of the thing. That's where I run into trouble on some R1s.

I contacted the people offering the course I'm interested in and mentioned how I was having trouble with the funds for the course and they were kind enough to take off $500 from the price. So it's now $1995. But the deal only last until Friday. I've scraped together every dollar that I have and I have just enough to cover it now. I'm not sure if I should start the course now or if I should wait as I have a family event that will take me away from home for about a week and while I'm gone I won't have any time to study and even if I did I wouldn't have internet access so I wouldn't be able to continue to study.
What should I do /dat/ ?
Should I spend 60.05% of my savings on the course now and then have my studies interrupted by family or should I wait a couple of weeks until I won't get interrupted but pay $500 more?

Yes, I'll be doing it online.
They do have a 5 day in class training session but it's optional. It starts next week and is hours away from me so I wouldn't really be able to do it.

If I wait until I get back that means the cost of the course will go up... and I consider myself to be quite the Jew so spending $500 more will hurt a lot...

still probably won't sell, even though they're sitting outside and haven't been driven. if he's young atleast he's not a boomer, they'll leave thier cars to die instead of selling.
my friends dad has a decent rx-4, under tarp outside hasn't been touched and he's just letting it rot there. insides starting to go and outsides starting to get rust. it had motor and everything in it, don't think it ran but was 'fixable'.
eventually when i get money i'm going to ask if he'll sell... would be a motor swap and a bit of rust fixing and some paint to fix up.
doubt he will though. my freind will probably want to take it instead since it's his dads, hes not into cars though.
i don't really like rx-4s though... but i like rotary cars. i'm going to import a rwd hatch from NZ when i get a job and fix one up. paint it dark silver and make it mint, none of stance bs

it might actually be an rx-3 or something. hard to tell these earlier rx models. i think it's an rx-4 due to the lights and how round the back is

i don't really like em though. only older cars i like are datsun 510s, and skyline kpgc10, or some other toyotas like ke70s and kp60s. datsun 510s are favourite of that era though

Here's my (quick) take on a cheap-ish PC, it'll pump out multiple displays pretty well.
I'd recommend ditching the Celeron and spending about another 200 on a Quad-core i5, or you could hunt around for a different HDD.

It ain't great, but its in a ballpark figure and none of the gear is 'bad' or low-end quality.

What would be a fair asking price to get rid of considering it needs probably $500 to get it running sweet again? $700? It's not mint but is in a lot better nick than some of the rusty shitboxes people are trying to flog off on gumtree for $1400 or more.

Yeah nah I'm retarded it's '93. There's a guy nearby who has his own private wreckers, might give him a call on the weekend. Last time I went there he let me rip a bench seat, carby, dash mat and two of those triangular windows off another XF for $20, hopefully it still has handles and rims on it. as for paint it has a small ding on roof with rust and a few chips but otherwise good.

got to drive a v6 one it wasnt too bad. what sold me on the v6 was the fact the previous owner said it winds out to about 250 kays before the computer cuts in... ford stud pattern so can have some decent mags. just have to watch the centres. i was talking with a wrecker and he said to me the only thing that kills these cars and its smaller brother the magna is running costs. even for a 4 the 2.6 is thirsty.

also yes it could have been a rival along with the 2.2 toyota camry but toyota and misti didnt want to spend the sort of scratch that it takes to make a all aussie car. plus you cant get a FWD to tow properly especially if its fully loaded at the back because the front tyres are struggling for grip.

Starting to get used to the bike and how much power there is. Anything above 3000rpm is ridiculous. Strangely enough, under 3000 is actually feels almost lacking. Makes me want to test ride an 848 or 899 just to see what the bigger twins are like.

Filtering on this thing is incredible though. It's so smooth and people seem to get out of my way instead of blocking me.

I actually was sitting at the lights earlier and the car behind me stopped a solid 5 metres back. I'm used to cars almost hitting you at lights.

Mod wise, I was going to put the exhaust off until next year, but the heat from the cat is just ridiculous. So I'll be ordering a Y-Pipe at the very least in the next week or too. Thinking of picking up some Akrapovic cans as well, but they're hilariously expensive on this bike.

Tail tidy and front indicators are ordered, just gotta find some suitably bright rear indicators. Unfortunately there doesn't look like there is anyway to adapt the stock ones to work.

I've spent a few mins on a mate's 1098 before. Thing absolutely hated low rpm. I think that's more to do with the gear ratios though - first is sky high then 2-6 are stacked pretty close together. It was even more of a cunt at low speeds than a litre inline four. Sounded fucken mint though and had heaps of torque once you got it moving.

Really want to try an 848 or 899 though, the slightly smaller engines were the sweet spot for aussie riding from what I read in magazine reviews.

Sounds like the ratios are the same as my bike. Top of first is 160 or 180, then it's close-ratio to the speed governor.

I imagined the 1098/1099/1199/1299 would be overpowered for the road and Ducatis always hate going slow. I've heard the 899 is the "perfect" amount of power for the road. Has as much torque as my R1, but a bit less horsepower. But I do prefer the 848 styling, and they're getting cheaper nowadays.

Only thing that makes me want to ride a 1098 is that's the engine the Vyrus 987 uses.
