Does it make sense to buy a mid-size pickup truck if your not using it for work and pick up truck crap stuff and only for daily driving in the city? Let's say NY? I always loved the look of them pick up trucks and I want a mid-size one and not those massive Silverado and f150.

Parallel parking a full size truck in NYC is not fun, neither is finding a truck sized spot the day before alternate side parking street cleaning.

Only do it if you live in a area where there's easy to find parking or have a driveway.

Otherwise a older Ranger/Tacoma isn't a bad idea considering they're as long as a newer Camry/Accord. Colorado might be too long, I don't know. Check.

And fuck the Colorado! I just did their build/price and going from 2wd to 4wd is an $8k price jump. I've never seen such a gap.

But holy fuck you're looking at close to $40,000 for one optioned the way I want it (CC, 4x4). That's full size territory. Can get a decently equipped F150 ecoboost for the same amount and get the same gas mileage.

Mid size trucks just don't make sense from a financial standpoint imo.

The real shitter is I could have gotten a CC 4x4 F150 ecoboost FX4 for $30,000 out the door about 2-3 years ago when I was shopping for one because they had massive discounts. Now the same truck is pretty much $50,000 since the economy has recovered, gas is cheap, and demand for trucks is back up.

That smaller trucks aren't actually small like they still were in the 90's is a crime, and an even bigger one is midsize trucks costing the exact same as full sized counterparts, but that's a failure of the industry, not the actual product.

Hyundai and I think FCA are looking at introducing "crossover pickups" targeted at people in your situation. Smaller than mid size, easier to drive/park, with more car-like road manners.

Hyundai's Santa Cruz concept is based on the Tucson. It has a turbo diesel 4cyl and some goofy extendable bed. Actually looks kinda cool IMO.

The 8 ton Isuzu forward and Hino Rangers here are predominantly 4 cylinder.

Carrying 6 yards of aggregate would be difficult in a tracker.

Yeah, mostly delivery drivers and contractors who park them on private property when they're done working or in more suburban areas outside.

Good luck if you live in a more dense area (anywhere that isn't Eastern Queens/Brooklyn or Staten Island, not counting Jersey/Long Island where a lot of said trucks/pickups come in). Right now they're planning to film a episode of Blue Bloods a block away so they cleared out both sides of a street to make room for production trailers/movie trucks. Glad I didn't move my car tonight, I would've spent at least two hours finding parking. And that's owning a Honda Civic.

And the difference between a regular mid-size car and a full-size sedan/compact pickup is the difference between fitting in a spot with 1/2 a foot-1 foot on both bumpers, and skipping over a spot or parking on someones bumper.

Most of Manhattan only allows parking for vehicles with commercial plates from 7am-7pm. And its not free, usually some ridiculous rate like $2-3.50 a hour.

Most of those trucks/pickups go back to a more suburban area of the NY Metro Area (long island/new jersey) or get parked in private property when they're done working.
