>>13754371I'm not dissing your choice in career, I'm mechanic and have lived and worked with other mechanics for years... If you like cars like me it can be a satisfying job, but please let me give you some information and advice.
Working as a mechanic underneath and below other mechanics that own or run a workshop is pretty dull, the menial tasks eventually wear thin and you start to get a distaste for working on cars and eventually cars themselves.
How ever if you manage to run your own garage or do something more specific like auto electrics in a more free lance style it can be very lucrative and not as dull, my personal aspiration is to run a tuning shop, that way I can work on customers cars that are already cared for and do more interesting tasks which I would find more rewarding.
In the end being mechanic is an OK career as long as you are not at the bottom of the food chain... respectively. If you have a deep love of cars it etches skills which you can use for life, in both hobbies and future work. I get payed hourly, It can be more lucrative when working at dodgy garages, but do the maths first, the flat rate might be as good or better for the opportunity you have. Good luck.
