>>13756148Plenumless velocity stacks/ITBs are inherently more prone to inducing hydrolock because they are sucking in any air/water/dirt (the latter if unfiltered) from the engine bay instead of using an isolated airbox. As soon as enough liquid water gets into the combustion chamber your rods will get shit fisted. Because of this, most manufacturers with ITBs will still use a plenum and airbox (pic related), and not an exposed trumpet-style intake. Racecars often use them regardless because they either don't get used in the wet, or the performance gains are worth the risk. Nevertheless, running without filters and/or an airbox is possible in a street car, although it will negatively impact the longevity of the engine because more shit is getting sucked into the engine.
