this. you can get a nice shell without a motor or trans for like $800 bucks usually, and then throw an ls or sr or rotary like a fuckboy or something in there, 1uz works and wont cost more than 500-800 buckaroons, t5 or some chebby trans with adapter/bellhousing will cost you like a grand, get it wired and get a cheap standalone ecu. Perfecterino. You might end up with like 500 buckerinos to spend on wheels too. And if you get REAL lucky and find an fc WITH the 12a or whatever it has in it for cheap, sell that bitch to a rotary loving teen and crush his dreams. BAM, instant $500 for the 1uz.

In good, working condition with little or no major problems (just normal old car stuff) your options are
280ZX Turbo, Z31 n/a, MK3 Supra n/a MK2 Supra, FB Rx7, AW11, A60 Celica, S12 Silvia, Miata NA, Foxbody, and a third gen F body.

For cars that will either be in passable condition for 3000, possible to get them running for under 3000 and so forth your options expand quite a bit. I would say the best "project cars" (loosely because many of these can be had for under 3k running, just not well or rare to find running well)
Rx7 FC, SW20, Turbo Z31, Turbo MK3 Supra, AE86, 240SX, NB Miata, n/a Z32, and many more.

nah, k series doesnt feel right, the car might be light but its kinda big, needs a big motorino. Honestly, a k series fb would be awesome, but idk man I just cant wrap my head around a k series fc. A good ol 1uz just makes sense to me, 4.0l, cheap, reliable, 200ish hp v8. Of course the aftermarket for the 1uz is only really starting to get to a comfortable point, but you can make some ok power with a little cash.

I understand that, and believe me I love the k series, f20c and f22c1 are also nice, but I don't think i'd go the 4 banger route. Its all preference and cost, really. Also, finding a k20/k24 and fitting it into this budget is kinda hairy.

K series are cheap and this one is good for 200bhp before forced induction. Fabbing should be easier than a V8 since the original rotary is small as well.
