Honestly I think the gti is a better modding platform if you want go that route.

The ST needs an intercooler right off the bat when you start tuning plus it has a smaller turbo so less gainz

I have an older GTI, so I guess my answer is obvious. I like it, don't really understand why people are so down on em. It's a little under powered maybe bu the mk7s aren't.

Never had the pleasure of driving an ST. Always liked them too. Good noise, better than the GTI. From what I hear though people seem to say the Fiesta ST is more aggressive though.

I had an st, haven't actually driven the gti but ridden in and sat in a few.

They are both great cars. The st is a lot of fun and definitely has character. Interior not as good as the gti, but not bad at all if you have the st3 package. The gti is easier to get power out of when modding for cheaper, as the aftermarket for that platform has been around forever and the ecoboost is just a bit more finicky in general, and ford is pushing their motor harder from the factory it seems. Gti looks more grown up too imo, but not a huge deal for me. I loved my st and I have an RS on order over the golf r. Can't go wrong with either though.

i drove a new mk7 gti, nd miata, 2016 wrx, and 2015 brz and i have to say the gti was by far the best. im very biased towards the miata, and i feel it handled better than the gti but the golf was all around far superior to all these cars.

Golf has nice sleek design in and out (for all the VAG hate VW interiors are second to mazda only, in their respective price ranges OF COURSE)

Common sense says the VW will break down more often but I doubt the Focus is much better

Under $26k Fiesta ST or base model Focus ST

Over $26k up to $29k WRX, Ecoboost Mustang or GTI with Performance Packages

The new GTI with the performance pack is a ridiculously fast for a FWD car. Faster than all the cars mentioned above, even the Focus ST by 3 seconds, but the problem with owning such a fast car is that below the limit its kinda boring and near the limit you're going way too fast for public streets.

That and the WRX is AWD, the Mustang is RWD. I'm curious as to how the new 4cyl Camaro is gonna do, if there's a RS package that gives it all the SS bits it might be a contender too, maybe even the fastest one.

Also if you were to break development down into pieces the 3rd gen focus is probably more european than the golf itself, so it will break as much as an european car

Now that I think of it I actually kind of like the new GTI, but like I said the Golf following in europe is absolutely the shittiest (like, worse than american STI following) and fuck paying that much money to associate with a bunch of retards with a stupid persecution complex

But for real, as a yuropoor that doesn't have any chance of buying an american market murrikan car in the next 10 years, ford is easily my least favourite. The V6 was actually a decent compromise when you could still get it with premium interior and performance pack. Now they force you to go EcoBoost if you want that.

Initially it was priced at 32k in my country and I was genuinely considering one because ANY dealer would be willing to leave it at 29-30k, now its priced at 38k which is 228i money

It also sucks because I can't pay much more than 30k for a car without being audited and most of my money hasn't been legally made

And yes you get audited here if you have a car valued at more than 30k, doesn't matter which country but count your blessings you fucking americans

I bought a Fiesta ST. Wasn't much of a fan of the Focus or the GTI. (Also, it's surprisingly hard to track down a 5-door GTI with good options but three pedals instead of the DSG, at least as of the last time I was in the market.)

I love my gti. Hasn't given me any problems. I feel the gti is a little more mature too. I've driven the ST a few times and its also fun but I prefer my car. I'm guessing you aren't worried about setting the new class record at the burgerring. Drive them both and make your own decision.
