Those are one of the Clavarioids, which are all edible. Commonly called 'coral' mushrooms.

They are OK but hell to get really clean.

No picture but had a great day this week, found a really good condition/size Giant Puffball, some common puffballs (which we left because of finding the giant, no point in taking more than we need), a bunch of Fairy Ring Champignon (or however it's spelled) and a few Russulas and Agarics, all in a few hours!

Picked some Sloe that day too for Gin purposes :D

This definitely looks like coprinellus micaceus. You can tell it's coprinoid because it's turning into black goop, and the white flecks indicate micaceus. The classification for these is a bit blurry and some say section micaceus rather than species micaceus, but for any practical purpose it doesn't matter.

You can eat them, look them up if you want any recipes but I've heard that they're good in omelettes. Had a nibble once and it didn't have any distinctive taste, raw fungus is a bad idea though.

I don't think birds eat mushrooms, it's mostly bugs, squirrels where there are and here in Melbourne a lot of millipedes just chilling in their shade.

Depends what country you're in. Here in the UK the liberty caps are found between late August and October, though it's probably prolonged this year because of how warm it is still.

Best place to find them is on South facing slopes where sheep graze.

So can any of y'all help tell me what these are? Got them growing it what's roughly a half circle near the base of a rotten old maple tree trunk. It was cut down a few years back. They get about 5 or 6 hours of sunlight a day this time of the year and I'm in upstate NY if that helps. Just want to know if I should be worried bout my dogs thinking about munching on them.

I have never voluntarily eaten a mushroom in my entire life. I'm sure I've accidentally eaten a few while I was unaware or something, but even the though of eating a regular normal mushroom you'd buy at the grocery grosses me out.

You guys a better men than I am. I don't think you could even pay me to eat a wild mushroom unless I was going to die.

If you're lookiing into harvesting mushrooms/mycology you should look into getting a few books like
National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms
or Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World: An Identification Guide if you're looking for shrooms
also frequenting forums such as shroomery.org
even then it's better to be save than sorry when you're not 100% sure on a mushroom's id

It's an orientation issuse with the image, if you rotate it in image viewed or something it just tells viewing software that it should be displayed that way but doesn't change the actual image. Rotate it in a program like Photoshop or other image editor and it should be fine.
