Have never buy knife of that length.
For normal camping and survival situation, which one is better? drop point or the bowie one?

Whichever one is smaller and more safely shaped, likely neither of those really. I'd recommend a decent pocket knife, if all you actually care about is "normal camping", and aren't secretly harboring /k/ or gearfag feelings.

The one that is an actual knife, and not a "look, its also a spear" gimmick. In other words, neither of those. If you really want a spear, sharpen a stick with an actual knife.

ehm, Bushman is practically indestructable, tougher than almost all normal knives.

So some ESEE and TOPS knives are not knives becuse they are designed to be used as fire drill bearing block.

I don't see how that has anything to do with a hollow handled "spear" knife. The question was asked about "survival" and being a first camping/survival knife, possible being his only one. The idea of throwing your only knife in that type of situation seems careless.

In the end its your/OPs money and decision. Buy the one on the left. It was just a personal opinion, which I stated. In the end I honestly don't give a fuck.

cheap beater knives. low hardness, perfect for batoning. can take more abuse than much thicker knives made of hi-end steels, 10 x more expensive.

the other side of the coin is, it requires sharpening more often. but really if you don't go with laminated steels you can't have both a tough, strong blade and good edge retention.

duck tape is the answer to that too, take small and large stripe put small in middle of large so the adhesive surfaces stick together and you get non sticky cover, there duck tape is love duck tape is life you can make anything out of it including beds and hammocks and bags and cups and plates and the list goes on.

then you should probably spell it correctly: 'duct' tape, which I have used many times for many projects, and used exactly once for taping a duct. Unless you mean 'Duck' brand duct tape, which I have found to be inferior to 3M brand.

My choice? The Standard. Because of it's slight lighter weight and greater practicality for processing game. The Standard looks like an old world trade knife shape. However, the Bowie is heavier, better for chopping, but not by much considering it's as long as an old USMC MK2 fighting knife. Its really just going to come down to aesthetics OP. The beauty of these knives is the cost.

If you get a Cold Steel Bushman I'd advise using with a handle on it. That tapered handle it has has no grip and you hand can easily slide off it on to the blade.

It's usually the people demanding finger guards that are called wusses. In my country there is a long history of knives without finger guards. A traditional Finnish puukko has no finger guard and that used to be the standard for centuries.

Even today many people think having a knife with a finger guard is like having a bike with training wheels. I will not call you names, but that's just me.
