>>613037Depends. If you're doing BRF cakes, you should use half quart jars. BRF takes longer to colonize, but is much more 'sturdy' when stand-alone.
For quart jars, you should be using WBS. WBS breaks apart much easier, and if you leave a gap in the jar, you can shake the fuck out of it once it's 1/3rd colonized - this RAPIDLY expands growth all over the jar.
However, WBS isn't used like BRF cakes. You don't just put them stand-alone and let them fruit, because they easily crumble. Instead, you spawn them into coir (coconut husk, buy it from garden stores or as reptile bedding from a reptile shop). The coir, once soaked in boiling water (methods on shroomery), holds moisture while the WBS provides nutrients.
Filters and self-healing ports are THE SHIT, good job! If you're worried about cross contam, just re-heat the syringe tip between jars.
I've done BRF cakes, manure bags, trays, etc. My favorite is to use a big plastic tote and drill 2" holes, 4 on the big sides and 2 on the small sides. Don't mess with the lid. Stuff the holes with sterile poly stuff. Put a black trash bag at the bottom (prevents pins from going down towards reflected light, also sticks to the spawn after it shrinks), put cooled, hydrated coir + your colonized WBS jars, mix it all up with gloves on, lid on and let it re-establish itself. Now wait.
Also, gloveboxes aren't neccessary. Soak a small bit of sponge in rubbing alcohol, sterilize your needle with flame, innoc THROUGH the sponge into your self-healing port. Alcohol will cool the needle, no contams.
Sorry for the discombobulated paragraphs, I just woke up and I'm rushing out of here to hike. I'll be back to check on the thread later tonight.
