>>614613> I am getting into hunting this year and it looks like I will doing it on public land.> What are the unique challenges?Stupid people.
Years back, hunting up in Kalkaska County MI
'Round about noon my buddies and I are in camp eating lunch
Suddenly; BOOM!, BOOMBOOMBOOM!, BOOM!
"WTF? That's just over the ridge!"
Put on our orange vests and strap on our revolvers
We crest the ridge and less then 100 yards away
Three wet-behind-the-ears teenagers are blasting stumps with shotguns....
They see us and assume we're DNR, jump in their truck and blaze out of there
Needless to say, every deer within a mile or so had run off by then.
Another time;
A buddy sets up his pop-up blind deep in the forest off a two-track
Around 8:00am on opening morning he hears a truck driving up
Looks out his blind and sees a guy get out, not 50 yards away
Guy looks right at my buddy
Proceeds to fire several rounds off the hood of his truck
Buddy: "Hay man, WTF? I'm hunting here!"
Dude; "Oh... I need to sight in my rifle."
Buddy: "Then go to a fucking gun range, asshole!"
Dude: *drives away*
Needless to say, every deer within a mile or so had run off by then.
Of course stupid people can be encountered on private property also;
Hunting out on the west side of the state on private land (carrot farm)
Opening morning, see a few deer off in the distance
Suddenly; roaring engines can be heard on the next-door property
Deer of course immediately run off
Get out of the blind and walk over to see WTF is going on
Local hillbillies driving their mud boggers around in circles, whooping it up....
