Im looking for a camping site to got to with some friends this summer. We are looking for a place thats not very common to go to and we can do some hiking. But some of them are pretty green still so we are trying to not go somewhere thats really hardcore. Any suggestions?

Voyageurs.

I lived near lake Kabetogama for a few years and it is a very nice spot. The terrain doesn't make hikes tough and the trails go through towns often enough you can't really get into trouble if you go spring thru fall.

Lake is beautiful and great for fishing if you want to do that.

Loads of campsites. You can hire a boat to take you out to an island on one of the lakes and camp there as well, which is nice having one all to yourself.

Fellow Minnesotian here. If you gave us a generally Idea of where you and your friends live it would help. I like e in northern Minnesota and very few people hike through some of baltrami's trail, making it a nice quiet place to camp without being too far out from civilization.

Minnesotan here. Anywhere up north is good... Well not really. Try to stay a good distance away from Reservations and don't ever camp ON a reservation. Upper Central Minnesota isn't really for camping, but for hunting and they hate campers.

If you want tips on places to look then look on any map for Wildlife Management Areas (watch for hunters), Public Land, or State Forests/Parks. There is so much public land in Northern MN that you can walk for miles without worrying about anyone else and you can camp as long as you want so long as you don't plant a permanent site.
