I've owned both, and I definitely prefer a bow. In fact, I sold my crossbow and used the money to buy another bow. I'm a rifle shooter, but shooting a crossbow is way different. All the weight of the crossbow is way at the front, and it makes it hard to shoot accurately. Shooting a bow feels like a more natural action if that makes any sense, and its definitely more fun.
If you're wanting it purely to be a hunting tool, it probably doesn't matter much either way. But before you spend the money on a crossbow, definitely check your states regulations. In my state, you actually can't use a crossbow during bow season unless you are disabled and you have a special permit.
