Whats do yall think about using a Surface Pro 3 for photoshop and lightroom? is the pen handy? is the display good enough?

The hardware isn't powerful enough, mostly. You can always use external monitors and peripherals. You can't replace the CPU without replacing the entire device.

There are different models. Only the ones costing like 2000 bucks are i7. Also HD space and memory. Only the expensive models have actually enough memory for heavy duty photoediting.

You get the same power for third the price if you buy a regular computer.

If you have the money to burn, sure. Go ahead.

Assuming its for a portable solution, comparing to desktop CPUs isnt really relevant. Desktops will always win out of course. Macbook Pro Retina would have to be the best option? albeit not touchscreen

I want surface so bad, but the price simply doesn't justify its performance. It's a shame that they tried too much to get into Apple crowd. I could easily sacrifice battery life and thickness for faster processor and better cooling.

Pic related, SP3's i5 and i7 against my 3 year old, $500 laptop (which also has a Nvidia GPU).

No problems.

The display is quite good, pen less versatile than a Wacom but I do use it to take notes all the time.

It's a good idea. The display is excellent, especially the unique 3:2 ratio which is much more suited to this work than the typical 16:9.
