I've never laid eyes on the print, nor have you. That makes it tough to comment thoroughly.
Actually, the fact that such a pictorial, romantic, simple and "usual" image broke the record pleases me.
It just makes the arrogant, self-congratulating fine arts folks recoil with disgust. It just stomps on this view of art as something exclusive and tightly controlled by the intelligentsia.
Why would just a "pretty picture" be worth so much?
